| 2008 |  | July - Africa New opportunities for projects have being investigated in West and East African countries.
July - Angola: two new projects Two new Tilapia projects are being initiated in Angola. The first Site Review was carried out in April, defining the site for the first project, and the second Site Review was carried out in July. Both projects are intended to supply produce to domestic and regional markets.
June - Belize: Expansion of an APT project
The APT technology based project is presently under second expansion and is planning the additional one.
June - Mexico: A new Tilapia project A new Tilapia project is in the Site Identification stage, focusing on the Southern part of the country.
June - Tanzania: a new Tilapia project integrated with irrigation is initiated A successful Site Selection visit was completed by APT team in the Rufiji River Basin in Tanzania. Optimal conditions were identified for large scale tilapia project integrated with irrigated agriculture development on 2000 ha near a river, using APT's IFFI methods. The tilapia project will be developed in 3 stages of 2,000 ton/year each, destined to supply fresh whole fish daily for the domestic market and fillets for export, to compensate reduced productivity of Capture Fisheries from Lakes Victoria and Tanganyika. A complete Business Plan has been submitted.
June - Ghana: European investment in a large-scale Tilapia project A private sector Tilapia project, planned for 3 stages of 2,000 ton per year each, is in the financing and permitting stages. The project is based on two environmentally sound methods: Re-circulation of Green water to remove ammonia and Integrated Fish Farming and Irrigation (IFFI). The Financial Package , based on APT Business Plan, had been agreed between the partners, among them APT. Main project financing and equity capital will be provided by European private sector and institutional investors.
June - Nigeria: World Bank Catfish project APT completed work on its contract with the World Bank and the Government of Nigeria to improve development of the Catfish industry in 3 States, Lagos, Kaduna and Abia. APT’s approved work plan includes implementation of Best Practice production procedures and preparation of practical and realistic MSME Production Modules, based on local conditions and rehabilitation of failed existing farms. APT defined specific areas of the value chain to be supported by grants from the World Bank-NIPC MSME Catfish Project Fund, managed by APT and its co-partner in Nigeria, Quick Projects of Lagos.
May - Guatemala: two new Tilapia projects on the drawing board Two private sector projects are in the process of planning. Sites were identified and approved. The projects will be implemented by local investors in cooperation with APT. The financial scheme is under preparation.
March - Nigeria: a new project in the Edo State A new aquaculture project is being promoted in the Edo State. Preliminary investigations are taking place.
March - Mexico: two new Tilapia projects Two new Tilapia projects intended to supply whole fish to the United States are being presently reviewed with respect to site conditions and feasibility.
March - Nicaragua: sites verified for a new Tilapia project Potential sites are being verified and considered for a new land-based Tilapia project to be implemented in this country with foreign and local investors.
February - Ghana: a new fish project is designed in an arid zone APT was invited to establish a new project near the city of Ho. The area has water limitations during the dry season, which calls for the implementation of Israeli water-saving technology, using the bio-floc approach. The project is being designed for three stages of 1,000 tons a year each to supply the domestic market.
February - Nigeria: a new site has been identified by APT for a new Catfish project APT completed a Site Visit for a private investor in the Oshun State and identified a suitable site for a year-round production of catfish for the domestic market. The project is at the design stage.
February - Peru: a new Tilapia project integrated with hydroelectric power plant APT was hired by a Peruvian Engineering and Investment company that is presently designing and constructing a hydroelectric power plant in Piura, aiming at integrating it with an advanced Tilapia project. The fish farm will produce 2,000 tons Tilapia a year for both the domestic market and exportation. The project will benefit from a clean-tech approach: the water will be used first for clean energy, then for fish production, and later, for irrigation (see Integrated Fish Farming and Irrigation).
January - Mexico: hormone-free brood stock supplied to an APT project A private sector A private sector Tilapia project in Yucatan has received its shipment of ND 41 brood stock, to enable the company to produce and export HORMONE-FREE ORGANIC FILLETS. The brood stock fish were flown at the size of about 0.5 gram, packed in a special manner to withstand 50 hours airfreight journey, from packing in Israel, via the USA and until release in the prepared tanks in Yucatan. Survival was 98% for Males and 92% for Females. The extra fish provided more than compensated for these minor losses.
January - Botswana: a vertically integrated mega Tilapia project approved The Vertically-Integrated MEGA-Tilapia Project was approved by its private sector investors and the Government of Botswana, based on APT Business and Marketing Plan. Detailed surveys and Conceptual Planning are initiated in January 2008. The project will use Zambezi river water first for Tilapia production and then for irrigation of fish and poultry feed crops, to create a self-sufficient and independent production system, including oil extraction plants, feed plants and processing plants. At least part of the project will be based on ORGANIC production practices, to supply fresh and frozen ORGANIC FILLETS to South Africa and EU markets.
January - Canary Islands: a new Red Tilapia project is initiated APT signed an agreement with the branch of Panamerican Fish, SLU, to introduce an advanced Canary Island Farm project for production of hormone-free fresh Tilapia fillets for the domestic market and the exportation. The project is in the planning stage.
